Rolling Hills Zoo
This 65-acre zoo is nestled in the Smoky Hills of Central Kansas and features over 110 species of wildlife. You can also visit the wildlife museum while you’re here. The museum includes more than 200 animal species displayed in a natural diorama with waterfalls, sound effects, and human robots. You can also visit during one of the special events the zoo holds each year for more fun activities.
The Garage
This museum has an impressive car display with a special section for models from the 1950s and 1960s. Many of the cars have mannequins and other items from the period to enhance the exhibit. Visitors can operate simulators to make them feel like they’re driving a classic vehicle or racing. Each car comes with a sign that provides information about the vehicle for car collectors. Some displays are designed for kids to appeal to families.
Smoky Hill Museum
This small museum features historical exhibits and displays to showcase local history. On the second floor, you’ll find a Genealogy Center where you can find out about families who lived in Kansas in the 1900s. There’s also a gift shop which sells crafts from local artists. The children’s area features interactive displays, and the exhibits change to keep it fresh for return visitors. The museum has no entrance fee, but a donation box for anyone who wants to contribute to the upkeep of the place.
Kenwood Cove Aquatic Park
Bring the kids for a full day of fun on a hot day at this water park. You’ll find thrill rides for those seeking adventure and 1400 feet of slides to keep everyone entertained. A separate children’s play area is ideal for younger kids while four adventure slides appeal to older kids and adults. For a more relaxing time, you can enjoy the Lil’ Smoky Lazy River or the wave pool. The Caribbean-inspired décor adds to the appeal.
Sculpture Tour
Take a stroll in downtown Salina to enjoy this exhibit of sculptures from around the country. See a real ‘metal’ band, be mesmerized by the phoenix, or imagine taking a Ladder to the Moon. Along the path of the sculptures are numerous shops and restaurants as well as a few murals. It takes about one to two hours to see the entire display, depending on how long you linger at each one.
Salina Art Center
This art center features many displays that change on a regular basis. It’s located on a main street in the downtown area and includes an area where children can create their own art. The curators provide information about the displays as you browse the selections.
