Oregon Trail

Walk along the Oregon Trail where you can still see ruts from wagon wheels in some places. Along the trail, you can visit the Louis Vieux Cemetery. Louis Vieux operated a ferry and was a member of the Potawatomi Tribe. Stop for a break at the Oregon Trail Nature Park where you can have a picnic or go hiking on one of the trails. This park includes picnic tables and a shelter house.

Oz Museum

Take your own trip down the yellow brick road where you will see Auntie Em’s Gift Shop before moving along the world of Oz. As you follow the path, you’ll experience more than 100 years of history for this famous story and see rare artifacts. Among other items are props from the musical Wicked.

Wamego Historical Museum and Prairie Town Village

Located in the city’s 150-acre park is the Schonhoff Dutch Mill, a stone windmill from 1879. This windmill is part of the Prairie Town Village, which includes other authentic buildings from the 1800s that you can visit to learn about the time period. Go fishing in a two-acre pond or go for a swim in the swimming pool. This park also features tennis courts, playgrounds, and horseshoe pits, making it a fun place for all ages. Guided tours are available and military personnel get in for free.

Lazy Heart D Ranch

See the bison up close that once roamed the prairie at this working ranch. A wagon tour is available, which takes you up close enough to feed the animals. The tour takes about 90 minutes with a maximum of 30 people per tour. It winds through woods out to the pasture for a memorable experience. You can also visit the Plumlee Buffalo Ranch to see bison out in the fields.

Swogger Art Gallery

Enjoy art displays from diverse local and regional artists. These exhibits include paintings, photography, mixed media, sculptures, and pottery. Walk around and see the various pieces or find one that you’d like to purchase. The art gallery is also open to special events and is located in one of the historic buildings of the area.

Oz Winery

The Oz Winery is situated on what is known as the official Road to Oz and includes a tasting room. You can try wines with unique names, such as Emerald City Lights or Squished Witch. A gift shop on the property features special accessories, gourmet cheese, handmade chocolates, and more. The winery is open seven days a week.
